REYES, ROMULO L.

APEC Registration No.: PH00008
Date Conferred: 2006-10-01

ROMULO L. REYES is known in the design world as an architect who specializes in construction and amazing modern designs infused with classic touches. He finished his BS Degree in Architecture in 1975 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Architecture and Fine Arts. He was conferred the distinction of Fellow in April, 2004 by the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP). He is also an International Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He earned the title of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Architect and is one of the first twelve APEC architects in the Philippines.

His working experience with his father, the late Ar. Luis T. Reyes has honed his extensive knowledge in design and technical concepts and theories. This was compounded by his attendance in several local and international conferences in his quest for broader auxiliary trends and ideas. He attended the Harvard University Graduate School of Design Executive Education Programs on Airport Development for the Next 50 Years: Planning and Design of World Class Airports and Passenger Terminals (August 2008).

These experiences obtained him several projects from industrial, commercial, residential structures to educational institutions. His steady base of clients includes the Augustinian Recollects, the Dominican Order of Preachers and Merced Company Inc. His classic touches in design are shown in the religious and educational buildings he has completed through the years. These classically designed structures include the San Sebastian Parish Council Hall and San Sebastian Law School Building in Quiapo, Manila; the Master Plan and Development of the San Sebastian College in Canlubang, Laguna; the Master Plan and Development of the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Balamban, Province of Cebu; University of San Jose-Recoletos College of Education Building, Cebu City; St. Ezekiel Moreno Minor Seminary, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental; and Order of Augustinian Recollects Provincialate, Project 6, Quezon City. He has done notable institutional and commercial projects such as the Universal Food Corporation and its subsidiary complex, Manila and Cebu City; Merced Drug and Bakehouse branches; the Torvald-Klaveness Multi-Purpose Maritime Building in Iba, Zambales; Auditorium Interior Works for Letran College, Intramuros and St. Stephen High School, Binondo, Manila.

His modern and maverick strokes are clearly encountered through his residential and condominium projects which include among others, the radical and head-turning Supapo Residence in Quezon City (featured in an architectural magazine), the neo-classic Espina Residence in Cainta, Rizal and neoteric and minimalist Canlas Residence in San Fernando, Pampanga. Among his other projects are the EEC condominium in Quezon City and the Benipayo Dormitory in Manila, designed to have the contemporary feel instilled with the elegance of the classic approach.

Ar. Molly, as he is fondly called, is not only dedicated to the design and construction industry. He is likewise active in civic connections. As past president of the Rotary Club of Tandang Sora he launched numerous socio-economic activities and livelihood projects in service of communities. Sports enthusiast Ar. Molly Reyes enjoys basketball and is an active member of the Architects Golf Club.
