MANUEL T. MAÑOSA JR., a Fellow (1975) and the 5th LIKHA AWARDEE (1996), is distinguished for his achievements and his selfless endeavour in the advancement of Architecture and EnvironmentalPlanning. As a pillar of the profession, Mañosa is one of the founders, and then Chairman of the Kanlungan Foundation for Architects (1987), and is a founding member of the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (1969).

“The Leadership style of Mañosa Jr., backed by the steadfast support of the (UAP) Board and the Committees, found element in the troubled times of the early 80’s and provided an enveloping sense of security over the organization...” and “UAP rose to some of its greatest achievements, the hallmark of MT Mañosa, Jr and his team”. (The 25 Years of the UAP). He was a Chancellor of the College of Fellows of the Philippine Institute of Architects and the United Architects of the Philippines. President of the Philippine Institute of Architects, and the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (1969).

MT Mañosa Jr. was appointed Member of the Board of Architecture and a Member of the Senate Committee on the Building Code and he helped draft the National Building Code. As an Architect and an Environmental Planner (since 1951), his practice is marked with the identity of style in the residential structures by the use of materials and forms that blend and adapt to the immediate environment with use of lofty roofs of cuatro aguas with wooden fascias trimmed with simplified Filipino motif designs.

Manny Mañosa, as everyone fondly calls him, is the eldest of eight children, three of whom are architects. In 1949 he earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Sto. Tomas with distinction and topped the Board Examination for Architecture in 1950. In 1954, with brothers Francisco and Jose, he formed Mañosa Brothers, Architects, Planners and Designers, and in its 23 years of existence, had projects ranging from residential structures, commercial offices, shops and factory buildingsto hospitals, schools, churches, resorts, industrial complexes, logging camps, new communities and urban developments. In 1976, as President, Planning, Resources and Operations System, Inc. (PROS) was formed to cope with present day development projects. As an individual he has executed many projects as well, such as San Agustin Church & Convent, Monasterio of Sto. Niño Convent & Chapel in Cebu, San Agustin School Complex and parish church in Biñan and many others.

He has been appointed as Commissioner of the Manila IV Centennial Commission in 1996; Vice Chairman, Senate Study Committee on Land Planning in 1969-1971; Member of the National Society for Seismology and Earthquake Engineering of the Philippines since 1978; Chairman, Technical Aid, Housing & Transportation Commission, Philippine foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled in 1980-1986; Sustaining Member of Museo ng Malacañang Foundation since 1987; Member, Board of Architecture from 1972-1975; Member, Board of Trustees, Cultural Center of the Philippines since 1995.This expression of Filipino cultural elegance and way of life is provided in specific features in designsapplicable to specific cases in accord with and as compliment to the client and users of the spaces which extends also to the design of edifices and schools, resorts, and neighbourhoods and communities. Mañosabelieves in straightforward, simple and honest solutions to the humane needs of activities in space with the innovative utilization of the latest and tested in technology as a basic thrust in the conceptualization of ideas and in integrated approach to the planning of developments for communities; neighbourhoods, urban and rural places.

His generous support and service to his fellowmen and community extended to the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (Gold Service Award, 1982 and Pearl Service Award, 1991), the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Men of St. Joseph and Affiliation to the Order of San Agustin. Mañosa also became the Chairman, Technical Aid at the Housing and Transportation Commission of the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, and Task Force Member on Accessibility of the National Commission Concerning Disabled Persons.

His exemplary adherence to the Architects’ Code of Ethics, makes him stand out as a gentleman of ultimate and impeccable degree of integrity, with honesty and unquestionable devotion to what is right, fair and honourable. He is well known in the industry and the society, his colleagues, associates, subordinates, contractors, clients, and the general public.
