GERONIMO V. MANAHAN, a Fellow (1980) and the 8th LIKHA AWARDEE (2008), received recognition for exceptional practice as a professional and exemplary performance as an Architect and Environmental Planner. He is an excellent and much admired Mentor with his unparalleled contributions to the improvement of Building Technology and Research in the fields of his professions.His scholarly and disciplined approach to architectural design and urban planning and his work display an extensive consciousness of the relationship of art and architecture with the workings of technology, nature, humanity, culture and society. Manahan contributed to the development of Building Technology and Research through spearheading studies in passive cooling technologies; the use of non-conventional energy in buildings, among others.He unselfishly shared his expertise with the United Architects of the Philippines, as a member of the “think tank” group of the UAP during its formative years, and as an adviser to the organizations Founding Fathers, as the UAP’s first National Executive Vice-President and as Scribe and Chancellor of the UAP College of Fellows and Honorary Secretary of the Architects Regional Council Asia; and for distinguished contributions in initiating the Continuing Education Program of the Professional Development Center. He is instrumental in the evolvement of the various building codes and ordinances of invaluable assistance to the Philippine Government as technical consultant to the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Trade and Industry, the National Economic Development Authority, the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board among others.

Manahan was also active in participation in other organizations, as one of the founders of the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) and the Council of Consulting Architects and Planners (CCAP); as a member and past officer of the Confederation of Filipino Consultants. (COFILCO), as member of the board of Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP); and as the Chairman of the Philippine Domestic Construction Board (PDCN).

His remarkable and prestigious merits made him a Fellow, UAP, the PIEP and ARCASIA. He was recipient of several recognitions including the Most Outstanding Professional in Architecture from the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations and the Professional Regulation Commission, the Mabini Medal as Architect / Builder of the Year by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Patnubay sa Sining at Kalinangan for Architecture from the City of Manila, Outstanding Architect of the United Architects of the Philippines, and Most Outstanding Professional in Environmental Planning from the Professional Regulation Commission, among others.
